Does anyone know how and why the Greeks assigned certain Gods to different signs. I'm trying to avoid what the Romans said, since they copied just about everything from the Greeks, no? I'm curious to know how we made the jump from Gods to signs.

Also, if the Greeks genuinely believe that those Gods existed, is there any merit for us to follow the system? Or is it along the lines of Karl Jung who said something like the Gods representing different aspects of the human condition? If we follow Jung's idea, how does that change how we know the Greeks viewed astrology?

Hi all,

it's about time I joined this forum. I've been reading it for long enough. Great site btw Chris and others!

So this is one of the problems I've stuggled with more and more as I hear about Hellenistic astrology. How much should we 'return to our roots', to the ancient Greeks, and how much since then is good enough to take with us?

For example, one of the clearest points of contention is, that the newer house systems (prepare for controversy) have...no use? Am I right? There's dynamic and topical division. Which dynamic division did the Greeks use? Something LIKE Campagnus for dynamic and whole sign for topical use?

Andrew on "Essential Dignity VS Reception"

Let us assume we have this position:
The Moon in Taurus, Venus in Aquarius (or Scorpio, or Aries). Venus has no essential dignity, so it is peregrine (-5)(or exile, or in aversion) . Theory says that a planet with no dignity can not receive.
Yet the Moon is in its exaltation. The question is: If the Lord of the Zoidia can not receive the Planet in its Dignity, should the affairs promissed by that Planet be considered as if they will not come to pass?
What hellenistic texts deal with this issue?

After several months of being down we've finally re-launched the discussion forum here on HellenisticAstrology.com. Unfortunately we lost everything from the old forum, but this new format has quite a bit of promise, and I look forward to seeing how it works out.
